2027: Makinde Vows to Serve One Term, Challenges Tinubu on Fuel Pricing

The Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has pledged to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.

Makinde also promised to establish a transitional government of national unity, pledging to promote inclusiveness, transparency and public participation in governance.

The governor made the pledge on Saturday during the APM North-East town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State.

He challenged President Bola Tinubu to publish the Federal Government’s petroleum pricing template, arguing that Nigerians deserved to know how fuel prices were determined.

“ The fact that you are in government or the Presidential Villa does not make you the only Nigerians with sense. We have other citizens who can dissect issues and proffer solutions,” Makinde said.

He criticised the Tinubu administration’s policies on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), electric vehicles and the naira-for-crude initiative, saying they had failed to deliver the expected results.

Makinde also recalled Tinubu’s pledge to fix electricity within four years, arguing that Nigerians deserved relief from economic hardship and greater accountability from their leaders.

He said the 2027 election should mark the end of what he described as a culture of political deception, promising to be honest with Nigerians about the challenges facing the country.

“2027 will mark the end of the politics of lies and deceit. It is a time when we will all come together to establish a reset agenda and tell Nigerians the whole truth,” he said.

The presidential candidate further assured Nigerians that his proposed administration would accommodate the country’s diverse interests and address concerns about the concentration of political power.

“I stand before you today to tell you that the government you will put in place from May 29, 2027, will be a transitional government of national unity. Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he said.

Makinde explained that the party had delayed releasing its manifesto to allow it to consult stakeholders and incorporate their views into its policy proposals.

Earlier, the APM National Leader and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, described the party as an emerging force in the opposition, citing its governors, elected officials and growing membership.

“Whoever does not reckon with us is going to do so at his or her peril,” Mohammed said, urging supporters to rally behind the party’s presidential ambition.

He said the APM was committed to national unity, mutual respect and equal opportunities for Nigerians, irrespective of their backgrounds.

Similarly, the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, said Nigeria needed a fundamental reset, describing the APM as a platform for patriotic citizens determined to change the country’s direction.

“Otherwise, we will continue to be in motion but without movement,” Daura said.
