The Kano State Hisbah Board has explained why it cancelled the proposed wedding between popular TikTok personalities, Ashiru Idris, popularly known as Mai Wushirya, and Basira Yar Guda.
According to the Board, the planned marriage was called off after investigations revealed that there was no genuine affection between the duo, as both admitted that their relationship was merely for content creation.
It will be recalled that a few weeks ago, a Magistrate Court in Kano granted permission for the Hisbah Board to supervise the proposed marriage after the social media pair publicly declared their love for each other.
However, in a statement sent to THR News, the Deputy Commander-General of the Board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminudeen, said the decision to halt the wedding followed the couple’s confession that they were never truly in love.
“Islamic law makes it clear that marriage can only take place with the full consent of both parties. Even before the stage of discussing the bride price, they both admitted they could not continue,” Dr. Mujahideen stated.
He added that the Commander-General of the Board reviewed the case and emphasized that under Islamic law, forced marriage is strictly prohibited.
The Hisbah official further disclosed that the matter would be referred back to the court for the next line of action.
