Professor Abubakar Muhammad Sokoto, a distinguished academic in the Department of Sociology at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has died at the age of 75.
He passed died on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
His daughter, Khadija Abubakar Muhammad, confirmed his death.
She said the respected scholar had been scheduled to undergo spinal cord surgery next week.

She remembered her father as a caring, humble and jovial figure with an enduring passion for learning.
“He was honest, humble and jovial. I was with him during his final hours; I drove him to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. He loved travelling, reading and photography.”
Professor Muhammad Sokoto is survived by his wife and six children; four daughters and two sons.
He was laid to rest on Friday after the funeral prayer held at Bado quarters Juma’at Mosque.
