Two children killed, houses destroyed as flood ravages Jigawa community 

At least two people have died while several others sustained injuries following the collapse of buildings caused by heavy rainfall that lasted for more than an hour in parts of Hadejia Senatorial District of Jigawa State.

The downpour caused extensive damage in Gandun Sarki community, Malam Madori Local Government Area, where a house collapsed, trapping children who were sleeping inside.

The father of the children, Malam Samaila, said the incident occurred while the children were asleep, resulting in the deaths of two, aged five and eight.

 

Some of the women affected by the incident were rushed to the Hadejia General Hospital for medical attention.

Reports indicated that more than 20 houses collapsed in the area, while several others were flooded following the heavy downpour.

One of the victims, Sani Abubakar, whose house was completely destroyed, appealed to the Jigawa State Government to provide urgent assistance to the affected residents.

The village head of the area, Malam Jamilu Bulama, said he had directed his aides to compile the names of all those affected by the disaster to enable authorities assess the extent of the damage.
