Trump’s threat insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty – Shiekh Gumi

A prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has said that the recent threat by the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump is an insult to the sovereignty of Nigeria.

Gumi stated this in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Trump had threatened military action on Nigeria over an alleged Christian genocide, which the Tinubu administration strongly denied.

Responding to Trump’s threat, Gumi urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against Trump.

He advised the Nigerian government to summon the U.S. ambassador and demand a retraction, warning that failure to do so should lead to severing diplomatic ties.

He also emphasized the need for Nigeria to explore other options for economic growth and military partnerships.

Gumi said, “For Trump to threaten a sovereign country with military attack is a profound disrespect to our authority, but we can rise above it,” he wrote.

“President Tinubu should summon the US ambassador; they either retract their threats or we sever diplomatic ties with this irresponsible regime,” he said.

“There are lots of other options for our economic expansion and military alliance.”
