Nine people have been killed in a road accident on the Kaltungo–Cham road in Kaluwa community, Kaltungo LGA of Gombe State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that it involved a trailer and a Sharon bus.
The Gombe State FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Samson Kaura, said 18 persons were involved in the crash, nine people lost their lives, five sustained injuries, while four escaped unhurt.
According to him, the injured victims were taken to the general hospital in Kaltungo, while the corpses were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Kaura explained that, “The accident occurred at about 8:30am on Monday. The trailer was descending a slope at high speed when the driver lost control and rammed into the Sharon bus from behind, causing it to somersault.”
The sector commander cautioned motorists against speeding, especially on roads with difficult terrain such as slopes, stressing the need for drivers to maintain controllable speed at all times.
He also advised road users to ensure proper vehicle checks before embarking on journeys, particularly during the ongoing yuletide, to prevent avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
