A two-year-old boy, Danjuma Salman, died after falling into a well at Bajallabe in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Friday morning when slipped and fell into the well with a damaged cover.
According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the service received a distress call at about 10:05am from one Saminu Dayyabu, who reported that a child had fallen into the well.
“Our men from the headquarters immediately mobilized to the scene of the incident. On arrival, they found a two-year-old boy, Danjuma Salman, who fell into a well whose lid was damaged,” the statement read.

Abdullahi said the rescue team managed to retrieve the boy unconscious, but he was later confirmed dead.
The victim’s body was handed over to his father, Salman Dayyabu, after the recovery.
The Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, expressed condolences to the family and urged residents to ensure that wells and other open water sources are properly covered to prevent similar tragedies.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to monitor their children closely, especially around hazardous areas.
