Tinubu Sends Shettima to Kebbi, Condoles Military Over Death of Soldiers

President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice-President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the state government and reassure families of the kidnapped schoolgirls of the federal government’s commitment to securing their swift release.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the abduction of the students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, despite intelligence reports indicating a possible attack.

He commended Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris for efforts taken to avert the kidnap but lamented the security breach that allowed the incident to occur.

The President also condoled the Nigerian military over the death of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other soldiers killed during an operation against insurgents in Borno State, praising them for their sacrifice.

“As Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, I am depressed with the tragic death of our soldiers on active duty. May God comfort the families of Brigadier General Musa Uba and other fallen heroes,” Tinubu said.

On the kidnapped schoolgirls, he condemned the act as “heartless”, adding that he had directed security agencies to act swiftly to ensure their safe return.

He urged community leaders and residents—especially in areas facing security threats—to support the military, police, and DSS by sharing timely information that could help prevent attacks and enhance national security.

“Our security forces cannot succeed in protecting us if the people don’t cooperate and share information. Your cooperation is crucial in our fight against these security challenges,” he added.
