Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has called for vandals of public infrastructure to be shot on sight.
Onanuga made the call on Sunday via a post on X while reacting to a video showing damage to an ongoing federal road project.
In the post, he condemned the destruction of public assets and described those involved as enemies of national development. “Just shoot these unconscionable vandals/thieves at sight. They are the worst specie of citizenships,” he wrote.
The video showed men wearing reflective jackets bearing the crest of the Federal Ministry of Works explaining how vandals damaged starter bars, also known as shoulder rods, at the reconstruction site of the Ibadan–Ilesa/Ife federal highway.
An official featured in the footage said the vandals cut and removed sections of the iron bars they could access, while cutting out others entirely, despite the presence of security personnel at the site.
According to him, the repeated vandalism has continued to undermine the progress of the project, describing the act as a serious threat to public infrastructure and national resources.
