Police Arraign Activist for Allegedly Cyberstalking Delta Governor, Senator

The Delta State Police Command has filed a suit against rights activist Fejiro Oliver, accusing him of cyberstalking Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District.

Oliver, who was arrested in Abuja in September and later transferred to Delta State, is being prosecuted under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

According to court documents filed at the High Court in Asaba, the police alleged that between July and August 2025, Oliver used his Facebook account to publish posts aimed at tarnishing the image of Governor Oborevwori.

The charge sheet cited several posts in which the activist allegedly accused the governor of secretly travelling to Brazil, awarding multi-billion-naira contracts to political associates for election rigging, and sponsoring government officials to China “to inspect CNG buses instead of attracting investors.” He also allegedly described the governor as a “sleeping governor who rigged elections.”

The police said the publications were intended to damage the governor’s reputation, adding that the alleged offence violates Section 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrime Act.

In a separate charge, the police accused Oliver of making defamatory posts against Senator Ede Dafinone between May and July 2025, calling him names such as “sleeping senator,” “POS senator,” “Dodo senator,” and “scammer in NASS.”

The police alleged that Oliver’s actions were meant to destroy the senator’s reputation and therefore constitute an offence punishable under Section 24(2)(c)(ii) of the same Act.

He was also accused of alleging that the senator hid school buses and transformers meant for his constituents.
