One killed as police, bandits clash in Kwara

A suspected bandit has been killed after police operatives and local vigilantes engaged armed criminals in a gunfire exchange in Kwara State.

The incident happened in Adekanbi village near Bode Saadu town in the state.

The armed bandits had reportedly settled on a hilltop overlooking the village.

However, it was learnt that they opened fire after they cited operatives as the team approached the location.

Security personnel reportedly returned fire, forcing the armed group to flee with gunshot wounds sustained during the encounter.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi confirmed the incident on Friday in a statement.

She said the incident occurred on Thursday, adding that a search of the area after the exchange led to the recovery of one dead suspect.

“Officers also recovered an AK49 rifle and thirty two rounds of live ammunition at the scene”, she added.

Adetoun described the operation as another success in its ongoing effort to dislodge criminal elements across identified hotspots in the state.

She urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime.
