Oluremi Tinubu Launches Nationwide Distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Packs

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a nationwide distribution of menstrual hygiene packs to support schoolgirls, particularly those in rural communities.

The initiative, tagged “Flow with Confidence”, was inaugurated on Thursday in Gombe State.

In a statement signed by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs Tinubu described the programme as a vital intervention to ensure that no girl is forced to miss school because she cannot afford sanitary products.

“In today’s modern world, no girl should have to stay away from school due to her inability to buy sanitary products,” she said.

She expressed concern that many girls still struggle during their menstrual cycle, often resorting to unsafe alternatives or staying away from school entirely. According to her, this trend must stop, and the intervention—introduced under the education framework of the Renewed Hope Initiative—aims to tackle the problem.

Giving details, Mrs Tinubu said each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) would receive 10,000 disposable sanitary packs. The distribution will be carried out through state first ladies and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Initiative to ensure rural schoolgirls benefit directly.

In Gombe State, she handed over 10,000 packs to the state’s First Lady, Asma’u Yahaya, for onward distribution to schoolgirls in rural communities, with each beneficiary expected to receive a one-year supply.

The First Lady also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community heads to support the initiative by ensuring the sanitary pads reach the intended beneficiaries.
