Mob attacks Kano NSCDC outpost, lynches 3 suspects

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has disclosed a mob attack on its outpost in Danmaje, Dawakin Kudu LGA, which resulted in the extrajudicial killing of three suspects and the burning of the facility.

The incident occurred on Sunday night, barely 24 hours after a similar attack on an NSCDC outpost in neighbouring Katsina State that also claimed three lives.

The Kano State spokesperson of the NSCDC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement released on Monday, said the crisis began at about 10pm when residents of the Yansango community brought three unidentified persons alleged to be motorcycle thieves to the Danmaje outpost after they were apprehended at an area known for motorcycle robbery.

However, before the officers could commence investigation, a crowd from Yansango and neighbouring communities, including Madinawa, Gagarawa, Limawa, Yankatsari, Danmaje and Gurjiya, besieged the outpost.

He said, “The mob demanded that the suspects be handed over to them for jungle justice.”

He explained that the situation escalated as the crowd cordoned off the facility, forcing their way into the outpost before reinforcements could arrive.

He further said, “They set the office ablaze and lynched the three suspects.”

Although the officers on duty reportedly escaped from the burning building, three NSCDC personnel sustained injuries during the attack.

The State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mohammed Agalama, said a committee of inquiry had been set up to probe the incident.
