Misconduct: BUK expels 57 students

The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 57 students over various forms of examination misconduct.

A statement by Aminu Wada Kurawa, Director of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions and Records (DEAR), disclosed this.

The university said the move is a decisive effort to uphold academic integrity,

Eight students  were also rusticated for lesser infractions, while 2 students were exonerated after thorough investigations.

The sanctions were ratified during the Senate’s 427th meeting, held on Wednesday, in line with the institution’s General Examination and Academic Regulations (GEAR) and other relevant academic policies governing both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The expelled students were drawn from various faculties and departments across the university, including the Faculties of Education, Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and the School of Postgraduate Studies.

The university administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of academic dishonesty.

It stressed that examination malpractice undermines the integrity of its academic programs and the value of its degrees.

The statement read, “This decision is a reflection of BUK’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and the enforcement of university regulations.”
