The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, has arrested five suspects linked to the death of a 14-year-old girl caused by the discharge of firearms in Maiduguri.
The incident occurred on April 4 at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) staff quarters.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the suspects were apprehended in the Ngomari area in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force.
He explained that the suspects, identified as members of a vigilante escort team attached to a local government chairman, were firing shots into the air during a wedding celebration.

The suspects — Muhammad Husaini (28), Abba Jiddu (25), Abba Kolo Mohammed (20), Ali Adam (20), and Nura Mohammed (18) — are currently in custody and will be handed over for prosecution.
Uba condemned the act, describing it as unprofessional and a violation of regulations governing the use of firearms.
He reiterated that the Civilian Joint Task Force is only a support group and is not permitted to engage in indiscriminate use of firearms.
He added that a full investigation is underway in collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
