Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed concern over recent statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Nigeria.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, Kwankwaso said Trump’s repeated comments and the designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” have raised serious issues that demand careful diplomatic handling.
He stressed that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation dealing with diverse security challenges posed by criminals across different regions, noting that the violence affects citizens without regard to religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs,” Kwankwaso stated.
The former governor urged the United States to support Nigeria through advanced technological assistance in combating insecurity, rather than issuing threats that could deepen divisions within the country.
He also advised the federal government to appoint special envoys and permanent ambassadors to engage the American government and defend Nigeria’s interests globally.
Kwankwaso further called on Nigerians to unite in the face of external pressures and internal challenges, emphasizing the need to strengthen national solidarity.
“To my fellow countrymen, this is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division,” he said.
“God bless Nigeria,” he concluded.
