Kwankwaso Demands Assurances Before Considering APC Comeback

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is open to rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) if clear terms and guarantees are given.

Speaking during a meeting with NNPP stakeholders in Kano on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said he had never ruled out returning to the APC but insisted that any move must come with defined benefits for his party and followers.

“If you said I should enter APC, I want to join APC, and I didn’t say I will not join APC even now, but for what position?” he asked.

Kwankwaso recalled his role in the formation of the APC, noting that he and his associates risked their political careers while confronting the federal government and enduring threats from agencies like the EFCC, ICPC, police, and SSS.

He, however, lamented that despite their contributions, his group was sidelined throughout the APC’s eight-year rule under President Muhammadu Buhari. “We were not given anything, not even a ‘thank you,’” he said.

The former defence minister also took a swipe at the PDP, saying the party failed to recognize his value when he returned to its fold. According to him, even the position of a zonal chairman was denied his supporters.

Kwankwaso stressed that the NNPP has restored his political relevance and that he and his followers are not desperate to abandon the platform. “We’re not in a hurry to leave the NNPP; we’re happy,” he said.

He, however, left the door open for alliances, including with the APC or PDP, provided such partnerships are built on sincerity and mutual respect. “If there is anyone who wants to work with us truthfully and will not abandon us as before, we are ready,” he stated.
