Kano police intercept N82.7m drugs, arrest suspect

Police in Kano have intercepted hard drugs valued at more than N82 million and arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with the haul.

The State Police Command said the operation took place on September 20, 2025, after officers received intelligence about a suspicious vehicle parked at a house in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters.

Spokesman of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, explained that operatives stormed the house and arrested the suspect, identified as Usman Umar.

“A search led to the recovery of over 60,000 pieces of Tramadol tablets and nearly 45,000 Pregabalin capsules,” he said.

The drugs, according to police estimates, are worth more than N82.7 million.

Kiyawa added that the suspect is now in custody and helping investigators trace others involved in the trafficking ring.

Reacting to the breakthrough, Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised residents for the information that led to the seizure.

He said the Command will continue to intensify its fight against drug trafficking and abuse in the state.

“We urge the public to keep supporting us with credible information. Every report will be treated with confidentiality and acted upon immediately,” the police commissioner assured.
