Kano APC Meets as Ganduje Reappears, Amid Rumours of Kwankwaso’s Defection to Party

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday held a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening the party’s base ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid growing speculations that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), may be considering a defection to the ruling APC.

The closed-door meeting, which took place in Kano, brought together top party stalwarts, including the immediate past National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who made his first major political appearance since resigning from office three months ago.

Other key figures in attendance were Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Senator Kawu Sumaila, members of the House of Representatives, as well as several former and serving political office holders.

Although the agenda of the meeting was not officially disclosed, party sources hinted that deliberations focused on repositioning the APC to maintain its dominance in Kano politics. The speculated defection of Kwankwaso, a former Kano governor and influential political figure, was said to have formed part of the discussions, given its potential impact on the state’s political landscape.

A communiqué is expected at the end of the meeting, which observers believe may provide further clarity on the party’s strategy and its response to the swirling rumours about Kwankwaso’s possible entry into the APC.

The gathering is seen as a significant move in rallying influential figures around the APC as preparations gradually build up towards the 2027 electoral cycle.
