Herder stabbed to death Plateau

A herder, Yakubu Salisu, has been stabbed to death, while he was grazing cattle around Kira’s village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos, saying the attackers stormed the grazing field and stabbed the victim to death.

According to the State Chairman of the group, they have informed all the security agencies maintaining peace in the state.

“The herder was just attacked and stabbed by the assailants. I called the heads security agencies including the Police, DSS and Commander Operation Enduring Peace. I call on security agencies to investigate and arrest the perpetrators of the incident. I also call on our members to remain calm and allow security to investigate the matter, “ he said.

In a related development, youth leader of Fulani community in Riyom Local Government area of the State, Abdullahi Yusuf, said seven cattle belonging to their members were killed in Dem Dagom community of Kwi Ward of the LG.

Narrating the incident in a statement on Sunday, the youth leader said, “The Fulani community of Riyom Local Government Area wishes to draw the urgent attention of the Plateau State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and the general public to a series of disturbing incidents of cattle poisoning recorded within the last 48 hours. On 29th November 2025, one cow belonging to Sunusi Dalhatu was poisoned to death in Jol community.

“Again, on 30th November 2025, six (6) cows belonging to Alh. Biliya Chiroma from Fass were also poisoned to death in Dem Dagom community of Kwi Ward, allegedly by suspected individuals from the Berom community. These repeated attacks on livestock are deliberate acts of sabotage that threaten peaceful coexistence and economic survival. Cattle remain the primary means of livelihood for Fulani families, and such targeted cruelty inflicts financial losses.

“The Fulani community in Riyom LGA remains committed to peace, dialogue, and lawful conduct. We therefore urge all stakeholders to treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves to avoid escalation and protect the hard-earned fragile peace in our area,” the community said.

Responding to the allegation, the President of Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Solomon Dalyop, said he was told about the alleged poisoning but said the allegation was subject to investigation.

“Yes, I have been intimated about the alleged poisoning of cow which is subject to forensic examination to ascertain the truth of this claim. Secondly, if it’s established medically that the cows were poisoned, then security agents be allowed to discreetly investigate the incident to know who (either Fulani or any other person or group) is be responsible rather than taking the law into someone’s hand in the guise of vengeance on innocent people.

“By this and other related incidences orchestrated to justify aggression by armed Fulani, we are calling on security agents to wade into this weighty allegation that could equally be mastermind to bring to bare a planned attack recently alerted and circulated accordingly.” Dalyop added.
