Security operatives on election duty in the Federal Capital Territory have arrested a suspect allegedly attempting to smuggle a ballot box in Gwagwalada.
The unidentified man was apprehended early on election day by members of a local vigilante group at Pilot Science Primary School, Central Ward Coalition Centre, while reportedly trying to move away with a ballot box.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect was intercepted before polling officially commenced, raising concerns about electoral integrity and security at the centre. The swift action of the vigilante group prevented the ballot materials from being taken.
Residents gathered at the scene as the suspect was restrained, calling on security agencies and electoral officials to take charge and conduct a thorough investigation. As of press time, the suspect’s identity and possible accomplices had not been confirmed.
The incident heightened tension in the area, with voters urging authorities to enforce strict security measures to safeguard the credibility of the electoral process. Efforts to obtain official comments from election authorities were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
