In a formal announcement, Garki said he served in the role for 931 days, expressing profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for the opportunity to serve.
He explained that his decision followed “deep reflection” and aligns with his commitment to serve the Federal Capital Territory with “even greater dedication and purpose.”
The resignation comes amid a reported directive by President Tinubu requiring political appointees intending to contest in forthcoming party primaries or seek elective office to step down by March 31, 2026.
During his tenure, Garki said he focused on strengthening traditional institutions in the FCT, promoting grassroots governance, and enhancing service delivery across the Area Councils.
Although he did not disclose the specific office he intends to pursue, Garki noted that he is stepping into the “next phase” of his journey with renewed resolve to contribute more to the development of the FCT
