Former Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, popularly known as Obama, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday night. According to early reports, armed assailants invaded his residence, attacking occupants and carting away mobile phones and valuable belongings.
Hon. Adamu Mustapha Danze (Obama), a prominent ally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in Gwagwalada, was allegedly the target of the failed attack.
The incident, which occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday at his residence near the Gwagwalada Area Commander’s Office, Phase 1, unfolded when the assailants forcefully broke through his house gate.
Narrating the ordeal, Obama said:
“They came to my house gate, broke it, and went straight to my first son’s room. They collected all his phones, the phone carton, and even the PIN number. They moved him to his younger brother’s room, did the same thing, and locked them both in the toilet.
“When they proceeded to my room, they told me they were here for me. They said I should bail myself with money or they would kill me. I told them my life was in God’s hands. They seized my phones and collected some cash. One of them attempted to stab me, but the others objected. After collecting what they wanted, they left.”
According to an official statement by one of his loyalists and media aides, Comr. Muhammad Isah Hassan, the attack was carried out by unidentified gunmen in the late hours of Saturday. Although details remain sketchy as investigations continue, several valuables belonging to the former chairman were reportedly taken.
Comr. Hassan described the attack as a “cowardly act aimed at silencing a man who has consistently stood for peace, unity, and progress in Gwagwalada Area Council.”
He added:
“Thankfully, Obama emerged from the attack unharmed. His team confirms that he is in good health and receiving the necessary support following the incident.”
