Eight people were killed on Thursday following multiple collisions involving trucks on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The crashes caused a major gridlock and confusion along the busy highway, with traffic spilling over to adjoining routes, especially around the Kara axis.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said a truck and a container-laden trailer went up in flames after colliding.
Another truck conveying cartons of biscuits reportedly spilled its contents across the road, while a separate container-laden trailer crashed into the bridge barrier and plunged into the river below.

According to LASTMA, eight casualties were recorded from the series of accidents.
The agency said, “There’s a report of a multiple road crash where a truck and a container-laden trailer were in flames, another truck spilled its contents (cartons of biscuits) on the road, and a container-laden truck ran onto the barrier with its carrier falling off the bridge into the river, thereby blocking the entire road at Kara Bridge inward Mowe.”
