The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that the Federal Government and the military high command will protect every soldier carrying out lawful duties across the country.
Badaru gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists during a ministerial press conference ahead of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration and Remembrance Day.
His remarks followed Tuesday’s reported altercation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a Navy Lieutenant over the development of a parcel of land in Abuja allegedly belonging to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.
Speaking on the matter, the Defence Minister said the government would not tolerate any intimidation or harm against officers discharging their legitimate duties.
“At the Ministry, and indeed within the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty,” Badaru said.
“We are already looking into the issue, and we assure that any officer carrying out his responsibilities legally will be given full protection.
“We will not allow anything to happen to any officer who is doing his job diligently,” he added.
