Defection: Kano Assembly names lawmakers who followed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf out of NNPP

The Kano State House of Assembly has officially released the list of lawmakers who defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) alongside Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The announcement was made in a press statement signed by the Assembly’s Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, and dated January 24, 2026.

According to the statement, those who defected include the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, representing Rogo constituency; the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu, representing Tofa/Rimin Gado; and the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussain, representing Dala.

Other principal officers listed are the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya), and the Chief Whip, Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso), alongside several other lawmakers drawn from different constituencies across the state.

In total, 22 members of the House were named in the list, covering constituencies including Ajingi, Albasu, Bagwai/Shanono, Bebeji, Bunkure, Dawakin Kudu, Fagge, Gabasawa, Garko, Gwale, Karaye, Kura/Garun Malam, Madobi, Minjibir, Rano, Tarauni and Wudil.

The Assembly said it had reviewed and authenticated the list, stressing that the disclosure was intended to keep the public informed and to clarify the political position of the affected lawmakers following the governor’s defection.
