Senior lawyer and former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi (SAN), has withdrawn from representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
At Thursday’s court session, Agabi informed the judge that Kanu had opted to conduct his own defence.
Following Agabi’s decision, all other Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on the defence team also withdrew from the case—a development Kanu confirmed in court.
Kanu told the court he would represent himself for now but might consider hiring another lawyer later. When the judge asked if a counsel should be assigned to him, he declined the offer.
Arguing orally in his defence, Kanu maintained that the court lacked jurisdiction to try him.
