The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has ordered the immediate deployment of components of its regional Standby Force to the Republic of Benin.
The directive, announced on Sunday, is aimed at strengthening security in the country amid rising concerns over terrorist threats and increasing cross-border instability across the Sahel.
ECOWAS did not provide details on the number of troops to be deployed or the duration of the mission, according to the official communiqué issued after the decision.
The development highlights the bloc’s ongoing commitment to supporting member states grappling with security challenges in the region.
