BREAKING: Court convicts Kanu on terrorism charges

A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu ON terrorism charges.

Delivering the judgement, Justice James Omotosho determined the three issues raised in the trial in favour of the prosecution.

The judge held that the threats of violence issued by Kanu in his broadcasts created fear and anxiety in the minds of members of the public in the Southeast.

Justice Omotosho held that based on the evidence provided by the prosecution, the ingredients of terrorism were established in the exhibits against Kanu by his intention and conduct.

The judge said that Kanu did not take the option to open his defence.

He added that he “failed and deliberately refused to give any exculpatory evidence” on the charges brought against him.

The court session is ongoing.
