BREAKING: All Enugu Reps Defect to APC

The entire Enugu State caucus in the House of Representatives has formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was announced on Thursday during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who read letters of resignation from the lawmakers formerly elected on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).

The event was witnessed by the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah.

According to the defectors, their decision to leave their former parties was driven by what they described as “deep internal crises” that have continued to threaten the stability and unity of the opposition parties.

After the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party won seven of the eight House of Representatives seats in Enugu State, while the PDP secured one. With this latest development, the APC now has full control of the entire Enugu caucus in the House of Representatives.

Speaking to journalists after the defection, the spokesman of the group and member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, said the lawmakers decided to join the APC to align with the “development-driven” administration of Governor Mbah.

He said:

“Just come to Enugu and see what is happening there. The governor is doing a lot for our people, and we want to bring our state closer to the centre.

This is not just a political move — it is a bold step into the future, borne out of courage, conviction, and our shared desire to reposition Nkanu East and West for greatness.

For too long, Enugu has remained in opposition, watching others shape the destiny of our nation. That era is over. We are ready to be part of Nigeria’s progress.

By aligning with the APC — the party driving national transformation — we are connecting our constituencies to the heartbeat of development. This will bring more projects, jobs, infrastructure, and empowerment to our people.”

Those who defected at Thursday’s plenary include Hon. Martins Oke, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, Hon. Nnamdi Agbo, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, and Hon. Mark Obetta.

In a related development, the member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, Hon. Daniel Asama, also announced his defection from the Labour Party to the APC.
