Bala Mohammed Hosts Bauchi APC Lawmakers in Abuja Ahead of Planned Defection

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Wednesday hosted members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives from the state at his residence in Abuja, amid reports of his planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The meeting, held in the nation’s capital, was part of ongoing consultations with key stakeholders regarding the governor’s possible move to the ruling party. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Dabo Ismail, who represents Toro Federal Constituency, said the gathering was convened to discuss the current political realignment in Nigeria, particularly as it affects Bauchi State.

According to him, the discussions focused on critical issues related to the state’s development, noting that the meeting yielded positive outcomes. He added that their position would be made public in the coming days, while consultations with other stakeholders would continue.

Earlier, on April 1, Governor Mohammed received top APC figures in Bauchi, including the party’s national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf.

A day before that meeting, the Bauchi governor had also hosted members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he disclosed that he was considering joining the APC with his supporters. However, he noted that the ruling party had not shown full readiness to accommodate him, suggesting that the ADC could serve as an alternative platform.

Meanwhile, APC stakeholders in Bauchi have called on the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to involve them in any negotiations before admitting Governor Mohammed into the party.
