The Al-Muhibbah Open University, Bauchi, on Tuesday matriculated 365 newly admitted students at a ceremony held at the Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre, Bauchi.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Hassan, disclosed that out of the 365 students admitted into various programmes, the Bauchi State Government sponsored 200 through the State Scholarship Board, while the wife of the Bauchi State Governor and Chancellor of the university, Aishatu Bala Mohammed, sponsored 50 students through her foundation.
Hassan described the matriculation as a significant milestone for the institution, noting that it formally marked the students’ enrolment into approved academic programmes of the university.
He explained that the university currently runs 14 academic programmes, 12 of which have received full accreditation, while the remaining programmes are at advanced stages of the accreditation process with relevant regulatory bodies.
According to the vice-chancellor, the institution is committed to providing quality education through open and distance learning, emphasising flexibility, accessibility and convenience for students irrespective of their location.
“Our libraries, learning management system and subscribed academic databases are designed to support students’ academic success. We encourage students to take full advantage of these resources, engage actively with their lecturers and remain focused on their studies,” he said.
Hassan urged the newly matriculated students to uphold academic integrity and discipline, stressing that education remains key to unlocking individual potential and contributing to national development.
He added that the university’s teaching approach is market-oriented, with internship opportunities already secured for students in selected industries, aimed at producing graduates who would be self-reliant and economically productive.
In her remarks, the Chancellor of the university and Bauchi State First Lady, Aishatu Bala Mohammed, warned the students that the institution would not tolerate any form of indiscipline.
She called on the management and staff of the university to sustain high academic and moral standards in line with global best practices, while appreciating regulatory agencies, including the National Universities Commission, for their support.
The event also attracted parents, guardians and other stakeholders, who commended the university and the Bauchi State Government for investing in education and expanding access to tertiary learning.
