Tinubu, Obi Lead on Betting Platform’s 2027 Presidential Election Predictions

Users of the global prediction market platform, Polymarket, have begun staking money on the likely outcome of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently leading the predictions.

Data from the platform shows that Tinubu holds a 68 percent probability of winning the election, backed by more than $14,800 in trading volume. He is followed by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), who has a 25 percent probability rating and nearly $6,000 in trading volume.

Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi ranks third with a 1.5 percent probability. Amaechi had lost the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, identified as Obi’s running mate, and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore both recorded less than one percent of the predictions on the platform.

The prediction market, which opened on June 2, has generated over $28,600 in trading volume within its first week. The poll is scheduled to close on January 16, 2027, the same day Nigeria’s presidential election is expected to be held.

Polymarket allows users to buy “Yes” shares if they believe a candidate will win and “No” shares if they believe otherwise. Share prices fluctuate based on political developments, market demand, and breaking news, reflecting changes in public expectations.

The platform operates using the USDC stablecoin on the Polygon blockchain network, enabling users to place bets and receive payouts through cryptocurrency transactions.

Beyond politics and elections, Polymarket users also wager on a wide range of events, including international sports competitions, economic indicators, award ceremonies, and cryptocurrency market trends.
