2027: Tinubu Will Be Hard to Defeat in Abuja — Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says it will be difficult for any opposition candidate to defeat President Bola Tinubu in Abuja during the 2027 general election.

Wike made this statement after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across satellite towns in the FCT. He attributed his confidence to what he described as significant improvements in infrastructure and service delivery across the capital.

According to him, the federal government has shifted focus from concentrating development in Abuja city centre to extending projects to previously neglected satellite communities.

He noted that ongoing projects are already improving residents’ daily lives by enhancing mobility, access, and economic opportunities.

“It is very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against the President,” Wike said, expressing optimism that the administration’s performance would translate into electoral support.

His remarks come despite the outcome of the 2023 presidential election in Abuja, where Peter Obi of the Labour Party defeated both Tinubu of the APC and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Wike, however, said the political landscape in the FCT is changing due to visible improvements in governance and infrastructure.

He added that President Tinubu had directed that development should not be limited to the city centre, insisting that satellite towns must also benefit.

The minister highlighted ongoing road expansion and connectivity projects in areas such as Karu, Apo Kashi, and the Bwari–Kubwa axis, noting that these developments are opening up communities that previously lacked adequate infrastructure.

He also pointed out that improved road networks have reduced travel time, making it easier for residents to commute between satellite towns and central Abuja.
