8 kidnapped in Kwara communities

Suspected kidnappers have carried out two separate attacks within days in parts of Kwara State, abducting at least eight residents and heightening fear among local communities.
The incidents occurred in Gaa Jimoh community, Ijara Isin, Isin Local Government Area, and Gaa Power Line area of Omu-Aran.
Residents said the first attack happened on Monday at about 6:30 a.m. in Gaa Jimoh, when armed men, reportedly in large numbers, invaded the community in the early hours and forcefully abducted several people.
Community sources said the attackers operated for several minutes before fleeing with their victims, leaving residents traumatised.

The second incident reportedly occurred on Friday around 7:30 p.m. at Gaa Power Line in Omu-Aran.
Residents said at least five armed men stormed the area, firing shots into the air to scare residents.
Three people were abducted during the attack. They were identified as Mrs Fatimah, who was carrying her two-month-old baby, Adama Musa and Umaru Sanda. It was gathered that the kidnappers later released Mrs Fatimah and her baby, while escaping with the remaining two victims.
Efforts to reach the Kwara State Commissioner of Police were unsuccessful, as calls by Daily Trust were not returned.
The police spokesperson, SP Ejire-Adeyemi, said she would respond later but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
However, the Chairman of Isin Local Government Area, Hon. Benjamin Jolayemi, confirmed the Ijara Isin incident, saying security agencies, including the army and police, were working to rescue the abducted persons.
