The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticized FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe over her comments on the recent council election, emphasizing that elections are an extended process rather than a single-day activity.
Speaking in Abuja, the former Rivers State Governor explained that electoral outcomes are determined solely by voters and should not be viewed in isolation. He stressed that preparations for any election begin well before the voting day, including candidate nominations, campaigns, and other activities.
Wike likened the electoral process to preparing for an examination, noting that serious contenders do not wait until the last minute. “You must attend classes and study to be ready,” he said, adding that those who fail to prepare often seek excuses, such as calling for strikes, instead of facing the outcome.

He pointed out that the February 21 council poll in the FCT is just one stage in a long electoral process and should be understood within this broader context.
