Two Arrested for Attempted Drug Smuggling at Kano Court Complex

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested two young men for allegedly attempting to smuggle illicit drugs to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex in Kano.

The suspects, identified as Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of Kano State, were apprehended by officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Goron Dutse. They were reportedly caught while trying to throw Indian hemp and other prohibited substances to inmates at the court premises.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Command, the NCoS warned members of the public against intermingling with inmates, particularly during transportation to and from court sessions, describing such actions as a serious security breach punishable under the law.

The Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Ado Inuwa, has ordered that the suspects and the seized substances be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining maximum security and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities within custodial centres and court environments across the state. It also called on the public to cooperate with security agencies to help sustain law and order in Kano State.
