Police arrest thieves, recover 6 cars, N15m in Abuja

Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested members of a suspected car-snatching syndicate and recovered six stolen vehicles as well as over N15 million in Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. He said the arrests followed credible intelligence, supported by digital forensic reconstruction, which led to the apprehension of four members of a notorious armed robbery and car-snatching gang.

He said the initial recoveries were made by operatives of the Jabi, Gwagwalada and Mabushi divisions, who recovered three stolen vehicles.

According to him, the Command’s Scorpion Squad subsequently expanded its investigations, leading to the arrest of additional suspects and the recovery of four more vehicles, alongside the seizure of N15,280,000 cash.

The recovered vehicles include:

A black Toyota Prado SUV (2008 model), reg. no. RSH 967 JJ

A grey KIA Optima (2009 model), reg. no. RMY 88 AA

A grey Toyota Corolla, reg. no. JUX 890 AA

An ash-coloured Toyota Camry (pencil-light), reg. no. APR 459 AE

A black Toyota Corolla, reg. no. XCE 578 AA

CP Dantawaye said investigations led to the arrest of four suspects – Dalhatu Bashiru (an ex-convict), Nwadigo Emmanuel, Uchenna Kalu, and the principal receiver, Alhaji Jazuli Adamu.

He said Adamu was arrested in Fagge LGA of Kano State with N15,280,000 — the money meant for purchasing the latest batch of stolen vehicles.

Further investigations, according to him, revealed that Adamu works closely with another accomplice, Alhaji Abdulkarim Gabeida Ibrahim, a citizen and resident of Niger Republic, who coordinates the resale of stolen vehicles across the border.

The commissioner said Ibrahim is currently at large, while efforts continue to track him and other fleeing gang members.

CP Dantawaye commended the officers involved for their dedication to securing the FCT and urged vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices to aid recovery in cases of theft. He also called on residents to support police operations by providing credible information through the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
