A 30-year-old mother of four, Adama Hannafi, has reportedly committed suicide in Sumore Village, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa.
Adama was said to be battling mental illness prior to the incident.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the woman allegedly hanged herself from a tree in the village on October 7, 2025.
“The police received a report of the incident at about 3 p.m. and immediately responded to the scene,” he said.

Shiisu explained that a team of officers from the Yalwawa Division arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of the victim hanging from the tree.]
After examination, the body was taken to Dutse General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, expressed deep sadness and urged members of the public to show empathy and care to relatives or neighbors exhibiting signs of mental distress.
He advised families to seek medical and psychological support early enough to prevent similar tragedies.
The Commissioner also appealed to the public to promptly report any unusual or distressed behavior noticed among individuals in their communities to the nearest police station or relevant health authorities for timely intervention.
