BREAKING: PDP Rejects Court Ruling, Insists Planned National Convention Remains Valid

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which restrained it from proceeding with its planned national convention, describing the decision as an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 31, 2025, by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the party said the ruling, delivered by Justice Kolawole Omotosho, does not invalidate its preparations and processes towards conducting the National Convention to elect new national officers.

According to the PDP, the judgment of the Supreme Court has recently affirmed the supremacy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, stressing that the Federal High Court decision cannot override that principle.

“The judgment of the court does not vitiate our ability to proceed with the processes and activities toward the National Convention to elect new national officers to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years,” the statement read.

The party called on its members, chapters, and organs to remain steadfast and focused on preparations for the forthcoming convention.

While reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the PDP said it has directed its legal team to immediately appeal the judgment, pledging to continue defending and promoting multi-party democracy in Nigeria.
