Bandits Abduct Five Women in Kano Village, Two Regain Freedom

Bandits have attacked Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, abducting five women, including nursing mothers, on Sunday evening.

Residents told Daily Trust that the assailants arrived in large numbers, armed with dangerous weapons, and invaded several homes before whisking away their victims.

“They came as usual, shooting sporadically and breaking into houses. They abducted five women, including nursing mothers,” a resident said.

However, two of the abducted women were later released, while three others remain in captivity, according to the source.

The attack occurred barely a week after a joint military operation engaged bandits in a fierce gun battle in the area, reportedly killing 19 of them.

Residents of Faruruwa and neighbouring border communities between Kano and Katsina States continue to live in fear following recurring bandit attacks.

Several villages in the area have been deserted due to persistent insecurity, with many displaced residents now taking refuge in Faruruwa town or relocating to urban centres for safety.
